green desert

Lately I've been using the option in windows 7 that allows you to use your photos as desktop picutres and got really obsessed with this one, so I decided to share it.

This one was taken in the north of Chile like most of the recent updates.

Have a nice week!

Flamingos (Phoenicopterus)

In the trip to the north of Chile we visited a salt lake that is over 4.000 mts above sea level, and there you can see three species of flamingos the Chilean (Phoenicopterus chilensis), the Andean (Phoenicopterus andinus) and Jame's (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) that usually isn't there that time of the year, but we got to see quite some of them.

With out further ado, here are the pictures.

Remaind me to share with you some of the pictures of the sunset that I took that day...

Great week for you all.

La Serena

The final set of photos from my trip to north of the contry. Enjoy!

Some windmils we saw in the way there, it's a big wind farm by the sea.

The seagulls are huge here, but I like the light hitting in the feathers of the back of the wing.

A huge concrete cross you can climb, but sincerely we didn't want to climb any stairs.

A view of the bay in la Serena and Coquimbo

and of Coquimbo
 one more of the bay.

See you next week.

Mamalluca

The weekend of the 18 we also went to an amateur observatory called Mamalluca, there you can actually look through the telescopes, unfortunately there was a full moon and that limited the quantity and quality of the object we could see, but enable me to take this pictures! (sorry, no tripod, so I had to put the camera on the ground...)

Have a nice week!

La Silla Part II.

Some more pics of the observatory (I hope you like it.)

I love me some back lighted photo, and that perfect blue sky.

Another pic of the NTT

And the inside of the 3.6M telescope... impresive specially when it's moving.

A radio telescope and the moon.

See ya!.

La Silla

This weekend, as I told you, we made a road trip and one of the main places that we visited was the ESO  La Silla observatory, This is a very beautiful place in a very arid terrain (but not as much as Paranal) and the tour is really good. If you have the chance to go, don't miss it!

Here some of the pictures of the way there:
Some flowers in the road there (there most have been some rain lately, I guess)

The colors of the mountains here are something special.

The observatory in the distance
One of the domes with a 3.6 m telescope

The NTT dome.

and the moon.

That's it for this week.

Next week I'll post the rest of the pictures next week.
